Label and Ribbon Roll Feeding

Inserting a label or ribbon roll is very easy and can be done in less than 1 minute. Due to the side feeding of the material at the print module, no rewinding is required. The number of deflection rollers is limited to two, making the label web simple. The color settings at XPA make it almost impossible to insert the material incorrectly: Yellow marks the wrapping direction of the label film, black the wrapping direction of the label film.
Easy insertion of the consumables reduces XPA downtime and improves the user experience.

XPA menu

The XPA menu can be operated on 3 levels: supervisor, operator and service. The menu contains several parameters that include all the necessary functions to enable the use of the XPA in any print & apply application. The structure of the menu is similar to that of the XLP 50x printers. A major advantage of the XPA menu is the ability to mark frequently used parameters as “favorite”. These favorites can be reached on the first level on the user interface, reducing the time and effort needed to scroll through the menu.

Data Interfaces

The XPA contains all common, modern interfaces to enable data communication, such as Ethernet, RS232 and USB. Wireless data communication is possible via an optional WLAN USB stick (industrial version).

Construction

The physical dimensions, in combination with the flexible attachment points and the unwinding positions, make the XPA extremely suitable for integration into any new or existing production line. With less space in production lines, the XPA is one of the best Print & Apply systems on the market. The XPA can be used for virtually any label application, whether direct dispensing or using an applicator. The flexible mounting positions allow top, side and bottom labeling. The robust construction makes the XPA the excellent print & apply system for any industrial environment. The components used for the metal frame and housing guarantee a long service life. Plastic components in critical moving parts are very limited and are only used when no other logical solution was suitable.

Service and maintenance

Special attention has been paid to the usability of the XPA. As part of production line uptime, the following considerations have generally been given to maintaining the XPA. Equipment Efficiency (OEE) is important. The XPA will certainly be part of the OEE, and therefore should provide positive measurements regarding uptime, availability and performance.

Signal

Interfaces Signal interfaces with IO and Applicator interfaces are available with standard and optional IO cards.

Print quality

Using near edge print technology, excellent print quality is achieved on any label/ribbon material combination. Regardless of the print speed, (max. 300 mm/sec) fonts, barcodes and logos can be printed in any desired scale and orientation.
The near-edge print head, including a crypto chip, ensures that the correct resistance value is set automatically. The print head pressures are also automatically adjusted via the menu. Pressure values can also be stored within a label layout and automatically saved by the XPA upon receipt of such a layout. Manual adjustment of the printhead pressure by the operator is not possible. The printhead contains only one connector for data and power. This makes it easy and quick to exchange the print head.

User interface

The XPA includes an LG graphic display with backlit RGB color screen. This display is used to set up and configure parameters in the XPA menu. The status of the XPA is also shown by the use of color backlighting (eg blue screen for ‘homescreen’). The display contains 4 robust and also operable buttons that also work when wearing gloves. The viewing angle of the screen can be rotated to keep it readable in any installation position of the XPA (e.g. top, side and bottom). In addition to the integrated HMI, the menu, status, operating data and settings of the XPA can be are displayed as follows visualized and configured by the web interface. To enable this interface, the optionally available 7″
